We are thrilled to announce that Friends of Patterson park has received a $5,000 ACL Music Festival Grant from the Austin Parks Foundation to replace the baseball field backstop. The new backstop will have a clamshell to protect neighbors, walkers, and cars in the Genesis Parking lot.
This is part of the improvements to the park’s athletic facilities that our group began planning in spring 2019, addressing the next community priority in our neighborhood park plan. Other elements of this project are seating behind the backstop for players, family and friends, and new backboards, youth baskets and a shade structure at the basketball court. A grant for the remainder of the project is under review by the City of Austin’s Neighborhood Partnering Program this spring.
We are so grateful for the continued support of APF, as well as the friends, neighbors and business sponsors who supported our fundraising campaign during Amplify Austin in 2020. We will be using funds raised last year to pay for our match and complete the installation of the backstop. We couldn’t have done this without Nature’s Treasures, Franklin Barbecue, Mueller Foundation, Jade Construction, Cherrywood Coffeehouse, Erin Tassoulas Design + Build and Cherrywood Neighborhood Association.
