Team Austin Parks Foundation raises $595 for Patterson

Five neighbors joined Team Austin Parks Foundation to run the Austin Marathon 5K on Sunday, February 18. Lucia (6), Nico (8), and Robert Miller, Jennifer Potter-Miller and Cerece Rosenthal raised $595 for Patterson. It was a cool, damp morning perfect for running, and it was a lot of fun being part of a large crowd running across Lady Bird Lake on Congress Ave. The Moody Foundation is matching 100% of donations to Team APF so another $595 will go into the APF coffers. We are so grateful for the support of our family, friends, and neighbors!

Amplify Patterson 2018

Amplify Patterson 2018!

Amplify Austin Day is coming up March 1-2, and Friends of Patterson Park is planning to participate in the city-wide fundraiser again. We have been working to improve and beautify our neighborhood park since 2002, and we have big dreams for 2018. Our Amplify goal is to raise $4,000 to continue making improvements to our park and support community events throughout the year. #AmplifyATX starts at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 1, and you can schedule your donation today!

In 2017 we collaborated with the Parks and Recreation Department and Austin Parks Foundation to host three volunteer work days, eight family yoga classes, and thirteen special events at the park, including a celebration of our new sculpture and the grand opening of our community garden, an egg hunt, National Night Out, and Luminarias at the park. We also received a grant from the Austin Parks Foundation to update seating and tables at the pool.

We are now focused on raising funds to bring more programming and amenities to the park and make it an even more welcoming destination for our neighbors and all the East Austin community. We are so grateful for the support of our Amplify Business Sponsors.  Erin Tassoulas Design + Build, Nicole Cooper–NBC Realty, Franklin Barbecue and Thunderbird Coffee will each be matching $250 in donations during Amplify Austin Day 2018, and Nature’s Treasures will be matching $500. The Austin Parks Foundation has offered a 25% match of total funds raised, up to $2,500.

Join us at the Amplify Patterson Ice Cream Party at the playground to kick our campaign off March 1, 4-6 p.m.!

It’s My Park Day at Patterson March 3

Join Friends of Patterson Park on Saturday, March 3rd for It’s My Park Day! Meet us at 9am at the pavilion for a family work day.

WHEN: Saturday, March 3
WHERE: Patterson Park pavilion
REGISTRATION: https://givepul.se/a6pwk

Sign up at this link to receive an awesome t-shirt and sign a liability waiver. The plan is to prepare the area just west of the playground to plant a new grove of trees including a diverse range of species. PARD will dig the holes, and volunteers will engage in several activities including laying cardboard and mulch to suppress bermuda grass around the new trees, root collar clearing and trash pickup.

This is an opportunity for the folks of all ages to volunteer. We will have coffee, lemonade, tacos, and muffins to fuel our volunteers. Thank you to the Austin Parks Foundation for organizing this city-wide work day at Austin’s parks. We’ve accomplished so much at volunteer work days over the last several years and always have a great time!

We are also looking for volunteers for the Patterson Tree Planting.

WHEN: Saturday, March 10
WHERE: Patterson Park pavilion
REGISTRATION: https://givepul.se/55jph

Friends of Patterson Park is organizing a group of neighbors to “adopt” the grove and commit to get them established by watering for three years. This pilot project is a partnership between the Friends of Patterson Park, Austin Parks Foundation, TreeFolks and the City of Austin’s Parks and Recreation Department. If you want to join the watering crew and get one of the trees labeled with your family name, email fopp.atx@gmail.com.

Trees in the new grove include Burr Oak, Monterrey Oak, Flameleaf Sumac, Goldenball Lead, Texas Kidneywood, Mexican Plum, Texas Persimmon, Red Bud, Desert Willow, Anacacho Orchid. Read more about the new grove.

Patterson Trails Refreshed and Extended

The City of Austin’s Parks and Recreation Department  did extensive work on the park’s trails over the last two weeks, reconditioning the existing granite path and adding two new sections. There is a new connection from the roundabout to Schieffer Ave., and another one from the roundabout to Airport Blvd., going past the basketball court and community garden. These will be so beneficial to park users, and we are grateful for the attention and responsiveness of the city!

Cap City Cobras Turn Field into a Baseball Diamond

The Cap City Cobras, a baseball team competing in the Sandlot League, has been practicing at Patterson Park for 2 years. This weekend they came out to turn the field into a proper baseball diamond with bases marked off and a pitcher’s mound. Thanks PARD for the donated materials, and thanks Cobras for the hard work! We look forward to seeing more folks of all ages playing ball at the park.
