Joint Celebration of Community Garden and Dance of the Cosmos Planned for May 27

The Dance of the Cosmos ribbon cutting celebration originally planned for April 30 is being expanded and pushed back a month. Please mark your calendars for a Community Garden Grand Opening and Dance of the Cosmos Unveiling at Patterson Park, Saturday, May 27, 10 a.m.–12 noon!

Artist Jennifer Chenoweth has informed us that the coating she is applying to the sculpture to preserve the steel is taking longer to dry than expected, so we are going to take advantage of the delay to coordinate with the celebration of the garden. It is Memorial Day weekend, but we hope you can join us on Saturday morning before heading out of town. We plan to have a moonwalk, tacos, coffee, and ice cream.

More information will be coming soon.  We are thrilled to host the celebration with PARD, Austin Parks Foundation, the Sustainable Food Center, the Patterson Park Community Garden, and Fisterra Studio.

FoPP Receives Austin Parks Foundation Grant to Update Pool Area Benches and Tables

Friends of Patterson Park is pleased to announce that we have been awarded a Neighborhood Grant from the Austin Parks Foundation to replace the furnishings at the Patterson pool. The grant is for $4,910 to purchase two new picnic tables, six benches and a trash can to replace the existing ones, which are in severe disrepair. The City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department has generously offered to install them. We are so grateful for the continued support the Parks Foundation and PARD, and look forward to a more comfortable summer swim season at our updated neighborhood pool!

Egg Hunting Madness at Patterson Park

The 3rd Patterson Park Easter egg hunt was a blast! Since the playground is closed for repairs, we held the hunt at the east end of the park. The wide open spaces there turned out to be perfect for the hunt, and dozens of kids from the neighborhoods around the park searched for almost 2000 eggs. We spent the rest of the morning enjoying a potluck brunch, playing at the skate park, and exploring the community garden. Friends of Patterson Park is grateful to Servant Church for partnering with us for another unforgettable community event.

Mulching day at Patterson Park Aprl 2017

Mulching Day with Texas Theta Chi

On April 8 a group neighbors and members of the Theta Chi chapter at the University of Texas spent the morning mulching the heritage oak trees at the west end of the park. We used 20 yards of mulch from the City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department and tools from the Austin Parks Foundation to nourish and protect 43 of the most beloved trees at Patterson. Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to care for our park!
