It's My Park Day Spring 2017

It’s My Park Day is March 4th at Patterson Park

Join us on Saturday, March 4th for It’s My Park Day at Patterson Park! We’ll meet at 9am at a picnic table near Airport Blvd. and Schieffer Ave. for a family work day. This is an opportunity for the folks of all ages to volunteer. We will be mulching the large oak trees at the southeast corner of the park. If you have wheelbarrows or wagons, please bring them! We’ll have shovels, gloves, and mulch sleds. Kids with an accompanying adult are welcome, and we’ll have coffee, lemonade, breakfast tacos and muffins to fuel our volunteers!

Please register on the Austin Parks Foundation volunteer management page.

First Fall It’s My Park Day at Patterson a Smashing Success

By Jennifer Potter-Miller

While the first Fall It’s My Park Day at Patterson Park started out in a light rain, it ended with a bang. We had 30 volunteers from all the neighborhood surrounding the park and from The University of Texas tackle 15 yards of mulch donated by the Austin Parks Foundation. They focused their energy on mulching 36 trees  at the eastern end of the park, including many of the older oaks between the community garden and Schieffer Ave.

We are so grateful to everyone who came out to work hard at the park (including several as young as four!), to the weather for cooperating, to the Cherrywood Neighborhood Association for providing coffee and breakfast tacos, and to neighbor Robin Graham-Moore for additional refreshments to keep us all fueled. We are especially thankful for our partnership with the Austin Parks Foundation, and all their support for this event and so many others during the year.

If you want to join the Friends of Patterson Park mailing list to learn about upcoming events, including work days and celebrations, email or follow us on Facebook.

Patterson Park Communit Garden fence work

Community Garden Cedar Fence Posts Installed

By Mark Smolen

Despite the threat of rain, we managed to set all of our fence posts locations and strip the cedar posts ahead at our work day on Saturday, June 4. Our fence contractor worked much of the day on Thursday installing posts. Once the fence, gate, and pergola posts are all set, we will do the fence panel installation. We will schedule another work day with garden members as soon as we have a delivery date for the panels.

Patterson Park Community Garden tool shed

Patterson Park Community Garden Work Day Scheduled for June 4

By Mark Smolen

I’m happy to report that the Patterson Park Community Garden is tracking to schedule, regardless of the recent rains. We have commitments from all our contractors and suppliers for the construction of the garden.  The irrigation lines have already been laid and hose bibs installed, and the tool shed was built on site last week.

Our next  workday will be on June 4 at 9 a.m. at the garden site in the park. We will be flagging fence posts locations for the fence work that is planned the following week.  This should take no more than two hours. Please join us.  Hours will count toward required community time for plot members.

Patterson Park Community Garden May Work Day

By Mark Smolen

We had a successful workday at the park on Saturday, May 14 getting out our grid lines and roping off the garden perimeter in preparation for irrigation work which is planned for later this month. We had help from 13 volunteers, including our two potential future gardeners, Dario and Ellison! There are still plots available. Email me for more info.
