NEWS

This is going to be a BIG week at Patterson Park!  Public Works contractors will begin installation of the long-awaited shade structure over the basketball court. This shade is the final piece of a 2021 grant we received to update the park’s athletic facilities. And the Pharr Tennis Center is opening back up soon after a full renovation!

October is going to be happening! We’ve got our annual National Night Out picnic on October 3 and then PATTERSONPALOOZA on October 28. We’re rolling together a ribbon cutting, fall festival, field day and open house into one fun-filled day. There will be tennis, baseball, & basketball games, bees, butterflies & free plants, and snowcones, empanadas & a marching band

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS

Friends of Patterson Park needs lots of help running Pattersonpalooza and other events throughout the year, applying for grants, and communicating with our park community. We are a small, dedicated team of two that put on events year round at our beloved park to build community and make memories. It is a ton of fun, but we need more helping hands! If you would like to join our team, we would be thrilled to have you! Email us at fopp.atx@gmail.com.

NEW NEIGHBORS

Patterson neighbor Genesis Presbyterian has rebranded as Genesis Creative Collective. The space hosts the church and longtime tenants Clearview Sudbury School, as well as The City Theatre Austin and new Driven Middle School.

Driven is an experiential middle school for 5th-8th grade students in a maker space where “students are encouraged to take risks and thrive with the fusion of rigorous academics, real-world application, outdoor education, and the development of a curious hacker mindset.”

The City Theatre is about to open Jean-Paul Sartre’s groundbreaking play “No Exit.” It will be on stage September 15–October 1, Thursday–Saturday at 8 pm. and Sunday at 3 pm.It’s great to have such creative neighbors at the park!

NEW LOGO

We are thrilled to share our new logo by Carolina Colantuoni. We chose the Dance of the Cosmos lotus sculpture to represent our park in the new design. Jennifer Chenoweth and Fisterra Studio’s kinetic sculpture is part of the XYZ Atlas, an interactive public art project mapping emotions in Austin. It was installed at Patterson in 2017, and is one of the things that makes our park unique. Read all about the sculpture here, and listen to KUT’s ATXplained story about it!
